We started the first race of the session under light winds that only continued to diminish till there was no wind at all. Earlier in the week Friday promised to be wet cold and windy which had the Race committee wondering if there would be a race but by Friday afternoon the winds were light the sun was bright only the temps were cool. I had thought that a short course would be chosen but to my surprise course 6 for “A” fleet and Course 5 for “B” were chosen not that 5 is not very long (3 nautical miles) but with two up and back manuevers I knew we would have a hard time to complete this course. We started on the Portsmouth side of the line so to get to the mark on one port tack if lucky but the winds headed us and we would have had a better start on the other windier side of the course. Valcore was going to crossed ahead of us so we tacked and we were able to push Valcore up till she had to tack. we reached the first mark first and from there we worked a larger and larger lead over the course. After passing the last mark heading back to the finish the winds died completely the remaining boats Valcore and No Problem caught up but sailed into the same hole we were in and that’s were the race ended a non-finish. Rodney and Ralph did a great job of keeping Sorellina moving under difficult conditions.
